Jane Bingham

Jane had a very successful career as a potter through-out the nineties and the first decade of the new millennia, selling her own line of tableware across Canada.

In 2008 after being inspired by a visit to The Mask Museum in San Miguel de Allende she began fashioning her first stoneware Bird Sculptures; creating stunning bird heads which are meant to be hung on walls.

 The public response was very positive and over the last nine years she has undertaken still more esoteric subjects; sculpting the exotic birds of Africa & South America as well as many interesting species of animals from every corner of the globe.

In 2010 she began sculpting Women from many unique & tribal cultures around the world, with the aim of capturing the essence and spirit of each of her subjects.

Her work can be found in collections around the world, from Japan and Australia to Switzerland, Israel, Mexico and the USA. Her work has been featured in The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery in Waterloo, Ontario and over the years at numerous Galleries across Canada

In 2016 she moved to San Miguel de Allende permanently and was invited to join The Galleria San Francisco. 

Jane Bingham – Process & Technique

Jane’s sculptures are created using various techniques of forming clay (earthenware) into the essential shapes of her subject. Once the basic shape is achieved, the finer features are formed by adding clay onto the initial piece and working them with her thumb & fingers. Using tools which she makes out of clay & wood, she then adds texture and finer details to bring more life and energy to each piece.  They are then glazed using many of her own glaze recipes and after firing, the metal embellishments are sometimes added to finish the sculpture.
